NC Turkish Festival

From Tilly Gokbudak: This should be a great event for Turkish-Americans and those who want to learn more about the Turkish culture. It was something that was in the works for a considerable amount of time. The Raleigh-Durham area has one of the largest Turkish communities in the South.

There will also be a Turkish booth at the annual International Street Fair in Blacksburg, Va. Virginia Tech students from around the world will be participating in that event, which is scheduled for Saturday. Unless it rains, that event should take place around the Lyric Theatre downtown.

The North Carolina event is sponsored by in part by the Divan Cultural Center in Cary, NC.

Their web site is http://www.divannc.org

Last year, they brought the Whirling Dervishes to the area for a performance at Duke University.

This event is also co-sponsored by Harmony Market and the Bosphorous Restuarant, both of which are also in Cary.

ATA-NC is also involved with many Turkish-American events in the Raleigh-Durham area as well throughout North Carolina. They recently opened a Turkish House in Cary.
