Quote of the Week- John Hughes

Today we remember the famed film director John Hughes whose films included "The Breakfast Club" and "Sixteen Candles" with one of his memorable quips (Hughes died several weeks ago):

"I find that screen kissing wears thin very quickly."

Quote of the Week- George Bernard Shaw

Today's quip from the late great English playwright George Bernard Shaw who penned "Pygmallion." I found it in a graphic novel collection of the disturbing, yet brilliant "Elephantmen" comic book series:

"The worst sin toward our fellow creatures is not to hate them, but to be indifferent to them: that's the essence of humanity."

Quote of the Day- Sylvia Plath

I consider this to be quiet ironic since this poet committed suicide in her twenties:

"But life is long. And, it is the long run that balances the short flare of interest and passion."

Dead or Alive (4 of 12)- Richard Dawson

Today's spotlight is on former "Family Feud" game show host Richard Dawson. We are asking folks if you think he is dead or alive (Of course, we know the answer!).

Dawson was born on Nov. 20, 1932, in Gosport, England.

He acted in "Hogan's Heroes" in 1965 and then became a panelist on "Match Game 73" in 1973.

Dawson started hosting "Family Feud" in 1976 where he became famous for kissing female contestants.

He then co-starred with Ahnuld in "The Running Man" (1987) where he played a mad tv game show host.

And, Dawson was portrayed by Michael E. Rodgers in the film "Auto Focus" about the life of his "Hogan's Heroes" co-star Bob Crane, who was a sex addict who died under mysterious circumstances in 1978.

Dawson hasn't been heard from much in recent years, but that doesn't mean he is dead (or does it?!).

Quote of the Week- Jerry Garcia

This quote of the week goes out to my cousin Stella who is getting married soon. She is a huge Grateful Dead fan.

But, needless to say chef and author Anthony Bourdain is not, and he said so during a recent episode of the savvy NPR music show "Sound Opinions" (see entry in our sister blog "The Daily Vampire").

Here is this week's quip from the late Jerry Garcia. 'Course, it's about drugs. Harold and Khumar would be proud!:

"And, as far as I'm concerned, it's like I say, drugs are not the problem. Other stuff is the problem."

I have a feeling it's going to be hard to find an Afghan beer though!
