I want to wish my friend and fellow Hollins University alum Sadie Tillery a Happy 25th birthday. Sadie is a documentary filmmaker who is also involved with the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival in Durham, NC, which just took place this weekend.
Her birthday is on Wednesday, which is also the birthday for my friend and fellow film fanatic Pelin Guler from Istanbul, Turkey. Until recently, Pelin lived in the San Francisco Bay area. She is also a fan of Bon Jovi, but I won't hold that against her.
As Pelin knows, Happy Birthday is "Dogum gunun kutlu olsun" in Turkish.
Coincidentally, Sadie has traveled to Turkey for her work.
I am hoping to revisit Turkey, my late father Mehmet Gokbudak's country, this summer. A friend of mine is getting married in the eastern city of Diyarbakir_ if I can make it there, it should be quite an interesting event!
