Images of North Carolina- The NC Zoo in Asheboro

(Image Above: The Endangered Species Carousel at the North Carolina Zoo)

First, the big announcement_ I am going on hiatus until Monday. Enjoy this blog, and if you have any suggestions for upcoming entries email me at tango74@aol.com

(Be nice! Or I will have to feed you to this guy.................)

Since today is Children's Day in my late father's country Turkey, I thought I would focus on something that reminded me of children. And, there is perhaps no better place that comes to mind than the zoo. I've heard that the North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro is a nice place, but I have no kids so it's hard to find the incentive to go there. In addition to lions, they have monkeys, polar bears and lots of snakes.

My funniest zoo experience was when my sister Lale and I went to the national zoo in Ankara, Turkey, some 20 years ago. We were kind of surprised to see cats there, though the kitties on display were Van cats (pictured below_felines with white fur and sometimes red eyes that hail from the Van region of eastern Turkey. To my knowledge, there are no cats from Van or anywhere else at the North Carolina Zoo!)

Incidentally, Incidentally, the jurisdiction I live in has one of the highest kill rates for any animal shelter in the nation. Perhaps, those cats would be better off in a zoo!
