There is a depressing back story to this band who hit it big with this song in 1979. As many pop music fans know, Joy Division's Ian Curtis killed himself in the early '80s when the band was at its height in popularity.
Curtis's life was recently chronicled in the film "Control," which should be out on dvd very soon. The film was cited by several film critics as being one of the better films of 2007.
Joy Division and its spin-off group New Order, which covered this song, were featured in the "Trainspotting" soundtrack.
The Cure also covered "Love Will Tears Us Apart."
