On Friday afternoon (U.S. time), Nihat Kahveci, who scored an astonishing two goals in the last five minutes of the match against the Czech Republic, will take to the field as the Turkish national team faces Croatia in the 2008 EuroCup. It is an elimination game. The winner will face Germany in the next round.
As one might expect, I will hardly be neutral and to show my support for the Turkish side, I am posting the 'unofficial' Turkish national anthem here which is the pop song "Simarik/Kiss Kiss" by Turkey's very own Tarkan.
Tarkan is an internationally recognized star around the world, alas the only market he has not found a niche in is America. He tried to sing a few songs in English to make that happen. They simply aren't as superb as songs like this one............
UPDATE (June 20)_ Alas, Turkey lost the game against Croatia in the 120th minute of play by a 1-0 score. I know how those folks in New Jersey felt when The Hiddenberg crashed.......
