The Return of the Swamp Thing (Fred Thompson)

If I weren't going to the movies tonight, I would have opted to amuse myself by watching Fred Thompson's speech. As we reported on this blog, Thompson was greeted at a Golden Corral in Rock Hill, SC, (when he was running for prez) by folks who were more interested in having him sign dvd copies of "The Hunt for Red October" than asking him tough foreign policy questions.

Thompson, who had a good career as a character actor (and, he is actually a good one!), was clearly in over in his head as he tried to run for president, but he did create the train wreck among social conservative candidates which allowed John McCain, a less-polished candidate, to have the GOP nomination instead of Mitt Romney- a man whose skills as a politician I admire even though I disdain his politics.

Nevertheless, since Thompson is back, we provide you with this bobble-head of him.

Tonight's convention speakers will also include some guy named George and some guy named Joe.

Lastly, kudos to the folks turning out for Ron Paul's alternative convention in St. Paul. There are 10,000 of them! Some of them are actually dressed like the character from "V for Vendetta" (have yet to see the film, actually). Others are dressed like the founding fathers. This picture is of normal folks who aren't in Halloween masks who seem just as fed up with the current state of things as the rest of us.

Now, these are Republicans we can all like!
