Pablo Presley (pictured here on t-shirt) is the creation of artist Bonnie Daly. He is a Latino Elvis with a tiny moustache. And, he is one of the centerpieces of the Museum of Bad Art (MOBA) which is in the basement of the Sommerville Theatre in Sommerville, Mass.
MOBA was the subject of a documentary feature on "Weekend America," which is becoming one of my favorite shows on NPR (airs from 2-4 pm on WUNC-FM out of Chapel Hill, NC, here in the Tarheel State).
MOBA has around 40 paintings, and their motto is: "Art too hard to ignore."
(Pictured: Another MOBA piece- well, we presume.)
Louise Reilly Sacco oversees MOBA and she has great foundness for Pablo Presley: "It's an interesting piece," she told NPR. "And, it's one that we love, which is part of what we're doing here. Everything in our museum, we consider bad art, but we love it. We celebrate it, we want people to see it and people like it."
For those who prefer good art (I personally like both), The Corcoran Museum in Washington, DC, has opened an exhibit of portrait art from Richard Avedon which runs through Jan. 25, 2009. The Corcoran is also set to open an exhibit from photographer Leo Rubinstien on "Wounded Cities" on October 18.
