Note from Tilly Gokbudak: The Virginia Tech Turkish Music Show begins its new season on 90.7 WUVT-FM on Sat., Oct. 26 at 2:30 p.m. The show is available for live streaming (http://www.wuvt.org). In 1994, I co-hosted the Turkish music show with Bahadir Acuner. There is still a Greek music show on WUVT on Saturday mornings. In 1994, the Greek music show was hosted by the late Virginia Tech professor Kriton Hatzios. He sadly died all too soon, some four years ago.
I would expect that one can hear the latest songs from the likes of Turkish pop-star Tarkan and singing diva Sezen Aksu during the Turkish music show. The host Onur Bilgen also states that he will play traditional Turkish music as well. Ashik Veysel, anyone? (Veysel, who died a number of years ago, is considered to be Turkey''s best saz player of all time. He hailed from Sivas in Eastern Turkey).
I wish Onur the best with his show this year, and I feel confident that he will do an excellent job. This marks his fourth year of producting and hosting the program.
