Turkish Folks Wanted for Raleigh Christmas Parade

Buket Aydemir does an outstanding job organizing Turkish-American events in the Raleigh-Durham area. This year she is asking for participants in Raleigh's Christmas Parade, which is next week. Is it just me or do Christmas parades start earlier and earlier every year? At any rate, if you live in the Triangle area and are interested, feel free to participate. Tomorrow happens to be the 126th birthday of The Republic of Turkey's founder Mustafa Kemal Ataturk.

Dear ATA-NC community,

Last year about 30 adults and children represented ATA-NC at the Raleigh Christmas parade. This year we would like this number to be much higher…

Please take a look at last year’s TV coverage, ATA-NC appears about 32 min. after the start: 2006 Christmas Parade

And pictures:

It was a great experience that left us feeling proud: Hearing someone shout “merhaba” with an American accent, hearing someone read our sign (this year it will be “Whishing for Peace”), waving back to hundreds and hundreds of people….

I hope that many of you can join us. Only condition is to wear a Turkish folk costume which can be just a vest. We have extra costumes (children’s and adult’s) that you can borrow or you can bring your own.

So, please mark your calendars and plan to join us on Saturday November 17th, early in the morning.

We'll let you know about the details before the event.

Regards,
Buket Aydemir
