The North Carolina State women's gymnastics team starts their season on the road in Tucson, Ariz., when they face The University of Arizona Wildcats at 7:30 p.m.
The Wolfpack then start their home-season with a meet that will feature Auburn and George Washington University in Raleigh on Sun., Feb. 2 at 1 p.m.
The team is ranked #25. Their ranked opponents include Michigan, LSU, Penn State, Auburn, Ohio State and West Virginia University.
The Wolfpack host Penn State in Raleigh (along with Kent State and William & Mary) on Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. Michigan comes to NCSU on Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. Bowling Green is the next home opponent on March 9. The home meets conclude when LSU and nearby UNC come to Raleigh on March 14. The Wolfpack also face the Tarheels in Chapel Hill on Feb. 10.
The standout gymnast for the Wolfpack is returning senior Leigha Hancock from Suffield, Conn. Other seniors include Brittany Crosby, Kelsey Lee, Laurie Singer and Heather Zolton.
Junior gymnast Mackenzie Payne happens to be from my hometown of Roanoke, Va. She is a graduate of the prestigious Roanoke Valley Governor's School.
And, Ashley Shepard, who has a dynamic floor routine went to Northwestern High School in Rock Hill, SC, where my cousin Michael Dawkins went to.
I'm hoping to make at least one Wolfpack gymnastics meet this year.
The last scheduled meet for the team is in Morgantown, W.Va., where the EAGL Championships will be held on March 28.
Regionals are scheduled to take place in Gainesville, Fla., on Apr. 11
The NCAA championships will be held in Athens, Ga., starting on April 25.
