Today, we quote Herbert Hoover (1874-1964), a Republican from Iowa, who was the 31st president of the United States who was succeeded by Franklin D. Roosevelt. Ironically, Hoover beat Gov. Al Smith (D-NY) to win the presidency. Roosevelt also succeeded Smith for the governor's mansion in New York.
Here is Hoover's quote: "When there is a lack of honor in government, the morals of the whole people are poisoned."
