The Kannapolis Intimidators are actually named after the late NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Sr., who was from Kannapolis, NC, an old textile mill town about 35 miles north of Charlotte. But, Tim E. Gator, the team mascot, they chose to go with with an alligator. Hopefully, he doesn't eat the children or dogs (nudge, nudge, wink, wink).
The Intimidators are one of four North Carolina teams in the Single-A South Atlantic League of minor league baseball, which is also known as the Sally League. The other three teams are the Greensboro Grasshoppers, the Asheville Tourists and the Hickory Crawdads.
