I learned yesterday from the BBC radio series "Culture Shock" that the Schipol Airport in Amsterdam is offering wedding services! I know that airports are perhaps one of the least romantic settings one could think of for the occasion, but it does seem more original than the standard church or courthouse wedding.

I was just listening to this show again. Here is a quote: "People want different experiences, and marrying at an airport is different." One of the factors is the increase in people from different countries who are getting married. The airport provides a neutral, mutual meeting place. One of the weddings was between a Brazilian woman who came to Amsterdam to marry her Dutch lover. I suppose it can also eliminate the need to drive to the airport to fly out to the chosen honeymoon destination.
