The Last 10 Songs We Heard on Simon-FM; Greensboro, NC: Not Madonna Again

During the 8:00-9:00 p.m. hour on Sunday night, we heard the following ten songs in order from Simon-FM (98.7-Greensboro,NC), which proclaims to 'play everything' but we haven't heard Turkish pop singer Tarkan on their airwaves yet:)

Two of the songs were from the '60s (1969 to be precise), one song from the '70s, five from the '80s, including "Papa Don't Preach" by Madonna, and two from the '90s including "Better Man" by Pearl Jam.

The disco ball top image is in reference to that lone tune from the '70s, which is "I'm Your Boogie Man" by disco, funk band K.C and the Sunshine Band.

Quote of the Day/Week- Leonard Cohen

Today, we are thinking 'outside the box' for our quote in honor of National Poetry Month. We are taking a broader definition of the word poet. Though Canadian singer/songwriter Leonard Cohen, 77, is best known for penning and singing brilliant songs like "Hallejuah" (1984), which was immortalized by the late Jeff Buckley in 1994, he has also written extensive poetry.

His most recent record "Old Ideas" has become a smash-selling work in many country, including here in America where it reached #3 on the Billboard chart, it actually went to number one in Finland.

Cohen has inspired the likes of U2 and Lou Reed, and his songs first appeared in films in the early 1970s when several were included in Robert Altman's western "McCabe and Mrs. Miller" (1971).

Here is Cohen's quote:

"I don't consider myself a pessimist. I think of a pessimist as someone who is waiting for it to rain. And I feel soaked to the skin."

Since Greensboro, NC, folk singer Bruce Piephoff is a personal friend, I thought it would be safer to go with an image of him, which I took from a Belgian web site_ of all places, than one for either David Bowie or Turkish psychedelic singer Erkin Koray, who turned 70 last year. All of these artists, along many bands that most of you will recognize, were in the last group of cds that I have listened to. Here they are in order:
