SIDEBAR: I imagine if tickets remain they may be very limited by the Canadian band Arcade Fire which is apparently now hotter than Shakira dancing barefoot in a low-cut dress is performing this weekend in Montreal, Boston and Philadelphia (that's actually a Monday concert). The band will also be profiled in this week's edition of "Sound Opinions," an NPR series which airs at 3:00 p.m. on Saturdays in the Greensboro and Raleigh markets on 91.5 (WUNC-FM, Chapel Hill).

Things We Learned on Twitter This PM- Greg Allman Backs Out of Show

A major setback has occured for Allman Brothers fans in Chicago as the band announced that their legendary front-man and former Cher spouse will be undergoing a liver transplant at The Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla.

As a result, The Allman Brothers will not be performing at The Crossroads Guitar Fest at Toyota Park, according to "Chicago Tribune" rock journalist and "Sound Opinions" (an NPR music show) co-host Greg Kot.

The tweet from Kot linked to an article in "The Trib" which said that The Derek Trucks Band will replace The Allman Brothers for the festival.

There will also be a joint performance from Steve Winwood and Eric Clapton at the show.

We certainly wish Greg Allman a speedy recovery.

In other news, since I forgot to link Twisted Sister's web site to our blog during a post yesterday, I wanted to point out that the '80s hair band will also be performing at Rockweekend 2010 in Soderham, Sweden, on July 9. Closer to home, Twisted Sister arrives in Wichita, Kan., for a performance at the Midwest Rockfest on July 24.

They were the ones who did "Come on Feel the Noise" right?! Oh, yeah---sorry, that was Quiet Riot! (Yeah, I know Twisted Sister did "We're Not Going to Take it." We were just messing with ya'!).

Quote of the Week-Joe Strummer

We conclude our Quote of the Week series for May with yet another left-wing radical in Joe Strummer (1952-2002) who was the lead singer of The Clash and a character actor in such films as Jim Jarmusch's "Mystery Train" (1989).

The Clash's classic 1979 record "London Calling" was recently profiled on the NPR show "Sound Opinions."

Politically, Strummer was one of the leading radical figures of the punk rock movement and his songs always expressed social concerns, whether it concerned American involvement in Central America or the dark side of capitalism (ie. "Rock the Casbah" which deals with the oil business).

Before I quote Strummer, I should add that I am a bit more to the political center than he was, but we certainly aren't involved in the Tea Party movement either!

We have quoted Strummer before on both of our blogs (the other one is "The Daily Vampire") so I hope we haven't used this one before:

"Yeah, all those things, responsibility, pressure. It's a bit stressful. I try to come to terms with it by not thinking about it."

SIDEBAR: For some great kitschy Christmas music, check out the home page of the NPR show "Sound Opinions," based in Chicago. They have a compilation of songs by Andy Cirzan. One includes a song with the video game character Baby Pac-Man, of all things?!

UPDATE: My friends at Acme Comics in Greensboro, NC, would probably want me to tell you that they have Hot Stuff, Wolverine, Wonder Woman and other comic books available at their store for the holidays....do I get a discount for mentioning this?-LOL!

Quote of the Week- Bob Dylan

We quoted Bob Dylan on our other blog "The Daily Vampire" last week, and we decided to do the same thing here this week since he has a new holiday cd called "Christmas in the Heart," his 47th record, available in stores now.

I originally got the idea to quote Dylan because of a wonderful painting of him that I saw at the Back Street Buzz Coffee House in Reidsville, NC.

This weekend, I found out that through the NPR show "Sound Opinions" that Dylan has released a new album. Alas, the show said the cd is not particularly good, though I feel guilty about revealing that here since sales from the release, which includes the new single "Must Be Santa," are going to the Feeding America charity.

But, I have not heard the record myself and we certainly commend Dylan for contributing to a generous cause.
