Meet Your DC Republican Congressional Rep (1 of 3)............and, guess when they will turn 103...........

Greetings to our blog readers around the world in The Bahamas, India, Kenya and Cyprus......all countries that were once ruled by our unapologetic imperialist friends in England......but, in all seriousness, welcome to each of you, or hosgeldiniz as they say in Turkish!

We must admit that each time we make fun of House of Representatives members, we feel a slight bit of guilt as we know they are working long, hard hours, but then I recall when Cong. Joe Wilson (R-SC, pictured bottom) called Pres. Barack Obama a liar during a State of the Union address, and we realize, what we do is perfectly ok!

Since Republicans have perfectly gerrymandered their seats in Congress to, in some cases, ensure their people will be in Congress for an extended period of time, we thought we'd late you know when your Republican Congressional member is turning 103; so here we go:

1) Cong. Robert Hurt (R-Va, pict. top) 2072

2) Cong. Renee Elmers (R-NC, pict center) 2067

3) Cong. Joe Wilson (R-SC, pict bottom) 2050

4) Cong. Mike Kelly (R-Pa.) 2051

5) Cong. Tim Huelskamp (R-Kan.) 2071

6) Cong. Stephen Fincher (R-Tenn.) 2076

7) Cong. Ted Poe (R-Tex.) 2051

8) Cong. Andy Barr (R-Ky) 2076

9) Cong. Joe Heck (R-Nev.) 2064

10) Cong. Gregg Harper (R-Ms.) (also) 2064 (yes, he spells his name with two g's!)

The Govt Shutdown is Finally Over (after 16 days)

Thanks for those of you coming over from our sister blog "The Daily Vampire" http://www.nocturnalguy38.blogspot.com where we reported on how House members in Congress representing North Carolina voted on the bill to stop the federal government shutdown.

There are three House members representing Virginia, including Congs. Jim Moran, Gerry Connolly and Bobby Scott. Every Democrat in the House favored the bill.

It was disappointing for many of us in southwest Virginia to see Congs. Bob Goodlatte, Morgan Griffith and Robert Hurt vote against the measure.

But, at least three Virginia Republican reps voted for the bill:Congs. Frank Wolf, Robert Wittman and Scott Riggell.

The other two Republican members from Virginia are Congs. Eric Cantor, a majority whip, and Randy Forbes.

This means that many national parks in Virginia, including Skyline Drive in Front Royal and the Arlington National Cemetery are back in business.

Our entry last week suggesting Cong. Griffith dine with Turkish ambassador Namik Tan remains highly popular!:

DC Week (5 of 8): Ten Swing State Congress Reps

We are continuing DC Week with a list of ten members of the House of Representatives in Congress who are in swing state. But, gerrymandering, which means fixing electoral maps so members of a certain can be more likely to win elections, means only 17 members of Congress are in competitive districts.

Although the strategy back-fired for the Virginia Republican Party, when Tom Perriello, a Democrat from Charlottesville, ousted long-term congressional rep Virgil Goode, a Republican who was considered one of the most conservative members of the House. Ironically, he was once a Democrat.

Ultimately, Robert Hurt defeated Tom Perriello, but the former Democratic congressional rep is now the CEO of the Center for American Progress Action Fund.

Here are ten members of the House in swing states:

1) Andre Carson (D-Ind.; pictured top) 7th Dist. Age 38 (He's the youngest member on the list)

2) Steve King (R-Iowa) 4th Dist. Age 64.

3) Bill Shuster (R-Pa) 8th Dist. Age 53.

4) Frederica Wilson (D-Fla) 24th Dist. Age 70.

5) Gwen Moore (D-Wisc.) 4th Dist. Age 62.

6) Trent Franks (R-Ariz.) 8th Dist. Age 56

7) Scott Garner (R-NJ) 6th Dist. Age 54

8) Jim McDermott (D-Wash.) 7th Dist. Age 76 (He is the oldest member listed here).

9) Peter DeFazio (D-Ore.) 4th Dist. Age 66

10) Joseph Heck (R-Nev.; pictured bottom) 3rd Dist. Age 51.

Things We Learned From Twitter This PM- Ricky Martin to Be in Broadway Musical

Pop singer Ricky Martin who recently made headlines by coming out of the closet (which to those of you in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, means that he's gay), will be joining the Broadway cast of the world-famous musical "Evita" based on the life of Argentinian political figure/actress Evita Peron in 2012 according to a tweet from "Interview" magazine.

Martin will play the character of Che?! (as in Che Guevara?, that would be interesting!).

SIDEBAR: We also want to take a moment to jokingly congratulate Republican congressional candidate Robert Hurt who will be facing our good friend Cong. Tom Perriello (D-Va) this November in the general election. NPR has said this race could among the most highly contested ones nationally. Of course, we hope Perriello pummels Hurt from Charlottesville to South Hill to Boones Mill (all of which are in Virginia's fifth district).

But, admitedly, Perriello will face several political obstacles as the area has a high number of 'Guns, God and Country' conservatives. These folks, also known as Tea Partiers, are in virtually every part of the district except Charlottesville, which is also Perriello's home town.

To help out Perriello, one can log on to http://www.perrielloforcongress.com
