Colorado Republican Debate Tweets: The DC Insiders Perspective (3 of 3)

Instead of focusing on strife in places like Afghanistan, Syria, and South Sudan, the BBC World Service will be giving live updates from the CNBC Republican Debate held tonight in Boulder, Colorado. Perhaps, that it is indeed quite fitting.

SPOILER ALERT: The Kansas-Iowa State college volleyball game we mentioned in earlier tweets resulted in a Kansas victory (3-1).

These tweets are from Washington, DC, media outlets as well as some partisan and non-partisan observers. Now, the BBC is saying that Google is trying to reach remote jungle areas in Indonesia, hmm....yeah, we can't imagine we get many hits from those areas.

The photo above is of Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex), one of the Republican candidates, who bears a stark resemblance to the late "Dracula" actor Bela Lugosi.

Here are the tweets:

1) The Hill: "Ben Carson on homosexuality_ I believe our Constitution protects everybody."

2) The Onion (a satirical publication): Jeb Bush Inching Podium Closer to Center of Stage During Commercial Breaks.

3) Chris Cillizza (Washington Post): Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz are just on a different level tonight.

4) Robert Costa (Washington Post): Bush muted. No more hits on Rubio for now.

5) Bernie Sanders (liberal presidential candidate): "It is an embarrassment that we have a major political party that rejects the overwhelming science on climate change."

6) Emily Stephenson (Reuters): Rubio: Democrats have the ultimate Super PAC, it's called the mainstream media.

7) Glenn Kenny (movie critic): One liners not withstanding Rubio's a goddamn fascist.

8) John Robinson (former  Greensboro, NC "News&Record" news editor): "You poor people watching the GOP Debate. You could be watching the Series or the NBA or Jane Seymour's Skin Care Secrets."

9) Tom Tomorrow (liberal cartoonist): Another hit on the media DRINK.

Last Ten Songs We've Heard on 98.7-SimonFM in Greesnboro, NC: Please Play Good Genesis Songs

Greetings to our beloved blog readers in Sweden, Costa Rica and Indonesia....

During the 1:00-2:00 p.m. hour (east coast America time), we were 'treated' to a mix of hip hop, disco, classic rock and kitsch pop thanks to 98.7-SimonFM (Greensboro, NC). The hour started with "I Can't Dance," a rare bland pop song from Genesis, a trio led in its later years by Phil Collins, a singer who wrote his signature solo song "I Can Feel It in the Air Tonight" after he came back to England from a tour of America to find she had been cheating on him. But, if anyone from Simon stumbles upon this blog, maybe they can play "Land of Confusion" or "No Reply at All" instead (yeah, of course, they won't pay attention to what we say, but..........)

Here are the last ten songs we listened to on Simon-FM:

1) "Refugee" Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. 1980

2) That's the Way (I Like It). KC and the Sunshine Band. 1975.

3) Another Brick in the Wall. Pink Floyd. 1979.

4) Don't Talk to Strangers. Rick Springfield (pict. bottom) 1982

5) Only the Good Die Young. Billy Joel (pict. center). 1977

6) Broken Wings. Mr. Mister. (pict. top) 1985

7) Someday. Nickelback. 2003.

8) Whole Lotta Love. Led Zeppelin. 1969

9) Every Little Step. Bobby Brown. 1989

10) I Can't Dance. Genesis. 1991

Our Top Ten Comic Strips from the Dec. 28th Sunday Roanoke Times

Greetings to our blog readers in Dubai, Nigeria and Indonesia....

This week, we look at our ten favorite comic strips from the Sunday Dec. 28th "Roanoke Times" in Roanoke, Va., which unlike "The Herald-Journal" in Spartanburg, SC, does NOT feature "Gasoline Alley.," but they do have "Hi and Lois," which once in a while cracks our top ten.

Our favorite comic strip is once again "Pearls Before Swine," as Stephan Pastis once again delivered a hilarious strip which once again deals with a dispute between Goat and Rat, two of the three main characters in the strip, along with Pig. This spat revolves around whether Rat wants to stay at his fenemy Goat's house or not....the alternative is, of course, staying in a hotel/motel (top image).

Second place goes to "Get Fuzzy," which is reportedly horror writer Stephen King's favorite comic strip, and this week's Sunday strip actually features "Catch-22" (middle image) and "Moby Dick," which are two novels King has not written (forgiven the English major humor).....

And. Dave Coverly's "Speed Bump" has a penguin meeting a polar bear, hence the reason for our image of Chilly Willy (bottom)...

Here is our top ten:

1. Pearls Before Swine

2. Get Fuzzy

3. Dilbert

4. Speed Bump

5. Agnes

6. Doonesbury

7. Non Sequitur

8. Zits

9. Family Circus (wow! Three weeks in a row.......?!)

10. Garfield

SIDEBAR: Here is the top ten from the previous Sunday (Dec. 21, 2014), which we never posted: 1. Pearls: 2. Get Fuzzy; 3. Agnes; 4. Doonesbury; 5. Dilbert; 6. Speed Bump; 7. Non Sequitur; 8. Jump Start; 10. Family Circus

Little Thinkers Quotes (14 of 16): Eleanor Roosevelt

Greetings to our blog-readers in Turkey*, Indonesia and Peru.

We are making this short and sweet so we can watch the 2014 Winter Olympics live from Sochi, Russia, with Jay Leno.....err, we mean Bob Costas (we know one of them retired!).....(and, it is actually 5:00 a.m. in Sochi).

Here is our quote from Eleanor Roosevelt:

"The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams."

*- "Gecmis Olsun/May it pass quickly, to the passengers on the Pegasus Airlines flight where an attempted hijacking occurred. The Ukrainian national responsible for this fallacy wanted to divert the commercial airplane to Sochi, but it landed in Istanbul, the flight's intended destination, instead.

Congratulations to the University of Alabama for Winning Gymnastics Title

Yes, college gymnastics fans will undoubtedly notice that the headline and the photo of Georgia gymnast Kat Ding, a senior from Sparks, Nev., may not seem to go well, but please read the entry first!

And, before we get to that, I forgot to thank blog readers from Belgium, Portugal and Australia on our sister blog "The Daily Vampire,' in addition to them, I want to thank those of you from Bulgaria and Indonesia who have stopped by here in the last 24 hours.

The University of Alabama did indeed win its seventh NCAA championship in women's gymnastics on April 21, and this was the first time that the Crimson Tide had successfully defended its title.

For Tide senior Geralen Stack-Eaton, it must have been a particularly rewarding weekend for she also won an individual title on the balance beam.

Meanwhile, Ding defender her national title on bars with a 9.875 and she had a 9.995 on floor, which gave her a title on that apparatus as well; Ding edged out Stack-Eaton, the defending floor champ, and Ellyse Hopfner-Hobbs of UCLA, who is perhaps the top Canadian gymnast in the world at the moment.

Kyra Hunter of Florida won both the coveted all-around title as well as an apparatus title on vault. The Gators finished a very close second to the Tide in the team competition with the Bruins of UCLA coming in a close third.

Next year, UCLA hosts the NCAA championships in the sport.

The Top Ten Countries Where We Are Most Popular

We used to jokingly brag that we were the most popular American blog in Bergen, Norway, and Samarkand, Uzbekistan, but it appears that our blog hits are not coming from those countries. However, they are thankfully coming from lots of other places.

For this entry, we chose to go with an image of Syd, Ollie and Millie, the mascots of the 2000 Sydney Olympics, where one of my all-time favorite collegiate gymnasts Yvonne Tousek of UCLA competed for Canada; the reason for this is that Australia is in our top ten for this blog as well as 'the other blog,' which is "The Daily Vampire."

Here is the list of the countries that really, really like us:

1. USA 66,460

2. Canada 6,543

3. UK 5,222

4. Germany 4,918

5. India 1,774

6. Brazil 1,567

7. France 1,313

8. Australia 1,269

9. Netherlands 1,040

10. Indonesia 613

SIDEBAR: Our friends at Triad Stage in Greensboro, NC, are set to open a new play in their UpStage Cabaret space when "The Mystery of Irma Vep" debuts on Sept. 29. The stage production will run through Oct. 15. If you are reading this at a cofffehouse in Hamburg, Germany, you should go ahead and take the 12-hour flight to North Carolina just to see this play!
