Comic Strips Dialogue: We Quote Pickles
Three years ago, we used to take dialogue from comic strips and put them in order to make a full conversation. We are using an image of the play "Defending the Caveman" for the comic strip "B.C." Similarly, we are using the Northside High School (Roanoke, Va.) logo for "Hagar the Horrible," who is also a Viking. And, lastly, we using sinks from a Turkish bathroom for the line we are using from the comic strip "Take It from the Tinkersons."
Here we go (Don't Try This at Home or On Your Blog...it's time-consuming):
1. "Mmmm! Something sure smells good!" (Pickles, Aug. 2nd)
2. "Let me give you a cooking lesson." (Baldo, Aug. 2nd)
3. "Go away. I already beat you once!" (B.C., July 19th)
4. "Try to relax! Focus on your peaceful surroundings! Don't think about work!" (Hagar the Horrible, Aug. 2nd)
5. "Hey, I know real people!" (Garfield, July 19th)
6. "You're a Bob Dylan fan, right Cosmo?" (Shoe, July 19th)
7. "Wow! Talk about false advertising." (Adam at Home, May 3rd)
8. "Diner was marvelous, mom." (Hi and Lois, May 3rd)
9. "I........Have to Go to the Bathroom" (Take it from the Tinkersons, May 3rd)

Sunday Comics Dialogue_ A Cameo from Big Bird
Greetings to our friends in Baltimore, St. Louis, Denver and San Diego here in the USA, and to those of you in London, Frankfurt, Istanbul and Dubai.........
Today's entry looks at funny pages dialogue from the Sunday, Nov. 18th edition of "The Charleston Gazette-Mail" in Charleston, W.Va., which still carries the wonderful comic strip "Mother Goose and Grimm," which features a cameo from Big Bird, but Mitt Romney was nowhere to be seen (to think 47-percent of our fellow Americans wanted Mitty Rich to be prez.....wow!).
Oh...but, first an update on how former American gold-medal winning gymnast Shawn Johnson is doing on "Dancing with the Stars," drats, someone changed the channel!
Here we go:
1) "Just a turkey hallucination. I get them this time every year" (from "Garfield")
2) "Ok, I'll need to but a turkey," (from "Grand Avenue")
3) "It's not proper for a girl to call a boy on the telephone" (from "Peanuts")
4) "They're trying to kill me out there. They want to cut my head off. I'm going to die!!" (from "Mother Goose and Grimm," a turkey is talking)
5) "What a great cook! I'm the luckiest man in the world!" (from "Hagar the Horrible")
6) "It says here that more Americans are eating something besides turkey for Thanksgiving." (from "Over the Hedge")
7) "Our invitation for tonight is lit up........more than 200 and climbing!" (from "Rex Morgan M.D.")
8) "Very nice?! Are you kidding?! She's world-class!!" (from "Blondie")
9) "I'm still fond of soft-spoken intellectuals" (from "Shoe")
10) "She asked me to put up the holiday lights while she was gone." (from "Dilbert")
11) "When I come back, I'll show you some trout holes you won't believe." (from "Judge Parker")
12) "What are those funny-looking birds?" (from "Hi and Lois")

Comic Strip Dialogue_ Raking Those Darn Leaves
Today, we continue our series of quoting lines from comic strips with a look at lines from comics in yesterday's Sunday edition of "The Roanoke Times," a daily newspaper in Roanoke, Va.
We noticed that several strips, including "For Better or For Worse," "Zits," "Hi and Lois" and "Blondie" all dealt with fall foliage, which is very apparent in many American states this time of year, including Virginia, West Virginia and Vermont.
Our image of Lee Marvin from "The Dirty Dozen" is what came to mind when we were thinking of an image of Veterans Day, which was celebrated yesterday here in America.
Here are the lines from the funny pages:
1) "Mmm.....Smell that Clean Air! Look at Those Leaves!" (from "For Better or For Worse")
2) "Happy Veterans Day!" (from "Red and Rover")
3) "Notice Anything?" (from "Agnes")
4) "You're Pretty Good at Driving" (from "Mutts)
5) "Well, that's offenisve" (from "Speed Bump")
6) "An emergency came up at the animal hospital" (from "Garfield")
7) "Well, I know for a fact that's not true! Ha Ha!" (from "Get Fuzzy")
8) "Soooooo, what are you getting mom for Christmas?" (from "Sally Forth")
9) "I'd rather talk about the Bengals or the Steelers!" (from "Jump Start")
10) "I'm not raking until the last leaf falls." (from "Hi and Lois")
11) "It's weird how clouds make you hungry" (from "Blondie")
12) "Cantaloupe!" (from "Pearls Before Swine")
13) "It was a lousy program, anyway!" (from "Peanuts," said by Linus)
14) "Excellence is the only market that isn't crowded" (from "Dilbert")
15) "Now Stop Dawdling and get on with it!" (from "Pickles")
16) "Does this write?! Yes, I guess it does. That's good; I guess," (actually a note to myself when seeing if a pen was working or not).

In Turkish, It's Called Tembellik
We could've looked up what's the Norwegian word for laziness too, but well we're too lazy!
The cat is in Japan (in the original image; this black cat might be from Mexico), well not my cat Gizmo, who is somewhere near Floyd, Va., but this cat in particular.
One knows laziness is very bad when you don't even want to post a blog entry!
But, for those of you with more stamina, we recommend "Garfield without Garfield," a satiric take on the comic strip with the World's Laziest Cat (and, the world's oldest cat as Garfield has been around for 32 years now!). The web site for that is garfieldwithoutgarfield.net
It's time to take a nap....!

Things We Learned on Twitter Today- IFC to Show American Splendor
Alas, we were saddened to hear of the passing of the comic book genius Harvey Pekar
(1939-2010) on Monday. Our good friend Moviezzz has a moving tribute to him on his blog http://www.moviezzz.blogspot.com
On Twitter today, we learned that IFC will show the film "American Splendor," the 2003 film based on his autobiographical graphic novel of the same name, on July 21 at 8:20 a.m. (not a typo) and 3:00 p.m. as well as on July 30 at 11:45 a.m.
Both the film and the comic book took place in Cleveland, a city that is coming up a lot today (see last entry). The film starred Paul Giamatti in a stellar performance as Pekar who has a cameo in the film as well. He will be missed.
On Twitter today, we also saw the following tweet from Therealgarfield (we presume it is from Jim Davis or a member of the "Garfield" staff): "Eat. Sleep. Eat. Sleep. Works for me." This proves that at least on some occasions a 32-year-old cat can still make one laugh.
There was a less amusing tweet from the Turkish newspaper "Zaman" which reported that Iran has temporarily decided not to stone Sakineh M. Ashtiani (a woman) to death, but she could still face execution pending a judiciary decision. Hey, we only thought things like this happened in Utah and Texas!
Radio Sweden reported that the very, very, very liberal group Greenpeace has slammed a Swedish icebreaking outfit for proposals to break ice near the Arctic Circle. The same media outlet tweeted that tourism is also on the rise in Sweden where some tourist from Kalamazoo, Michigan, is probably wondering where to Little Mermaid statue is (it's in Copenhagen, Denmark, of course!).
And, lastly, "The Hartford Courant" tweeted that a Sonic Drive-In will come to folks in Wallingford, Conn., on Wednesday. I'm sure this will put them on the map!
