10 for 10 (3rd Entry): Elephants.........

Greetings to our blog readers in Taiwan, Ghana, and the Czech Republic......

Just because we are featuring the images of elephants, the traditional symbol of America's Republican Party does NOT mean we are endorsing Ted Cruz, Donald Trump, Donald Trump again, Jeb Bush, Jim Gilmore, George Pataki, Chris Christie, Scott Walker, Mike Huckabee........well, you get the idea (excuse the political humor, it should be pointed we didn't go with Carly because we did not want to spell her name incorrectly)......

Top Ten Comics from Sunday's The Sun News (Myrtle Beach, SC, July 19th edition): Dustin Gets a Gold Star

We initially believed that we had misplaced the July 19th Sunday comics section of "The Sun News" in Myrtle Beach, SC, when we found it as it was an archeological stone from ancient Egypt!

Our favorite comic from the newspaper is "Dustin," in which a young adult son walks by his whimsical mom with an overloaded laundry basket.

The second-place strip is "Off the Mark" in which a museum patron is listening to head phones with info on the art who stumbles upon a blank wall with a large hang nail which indicates that a painting, perhaps as prestigious as Edvard Munch's "The Scream" (pict. center). Munch's masterpiece was actually stolen from a museum in his native Norway.

Third place goes to "Ziggy," not to be confused with "Zippy the Pinhead" by Bill Griffith, which today made fun of Mike Huckabee (we're still laughing over that one). Ziggy makes fun of a landmark once featured in a Woody Woodpecker cartoon, that is Niagara Falls, which borders both the United States and Canada. In "Ziggy," the title character is talking to his pooch when he realizes that it is time to use the bathroom!

We have decided to arbitrarily put "Hagar the Horrible" in the tenth position as a running gag.

Top 10 Sunday Comic Strips from the Times-Call: Carlos Gonzalez Makes the Chart

Greetings to our blog readers in the Czech Republic, Japan, and Ireland......

As we are posting this, Wolf Blitzer of CNN is interviewing Republican long-shot presidential candidate Mike Huckabee for his views on the nuclear agreement our government has just made with Iran. Yes, of course, we diligently paid attention to Mr. Huckabee.......zzzzzzzz.....Wait, did Huckabee just say Israel borders Iran?! He may want to check the map again.

Politics aside, this week, we are running our top ten from "The Times-Call," a daily newspaper serving the Boulder County suburbs of Denver, Colo. One of the unique aspects of this paper's comic pages is that they run two King Comics strips: 1) "Take It from the Tinkersons" and 2) "The Pajama Diaries," which are not in some major newspapers' funnies section, like "The Washington Post" and "The New York Times" (we're just kidding on the NYT as they don't have a comics section).

For this week's survey, we are going back to strips which ran on Sunday, May 4th. Carlos Gonzalez of the Colorado Rockies (pict. top) is in reference to "Foxtrot," the top strip in our survey, which depicts a kid catching a fly ball as he is taking a selfie of himself in the process. The second image of a colorful fish is for second place finisher "WuMo" which revolves around a fish who want to plug in a toaster in a fish tank. Lastly, the Bulgarian cuisine picture at the bottom is for "Tinkersons" in which a family meal is interrupted by a cellphone, which perhaps ironically belongs to the father as opposed to his wife and children.

High School of the Week- Central High School (Little Rock, Ark)

I must profess to enjoying the irony that we are featuring a photograph of former president Bill Clinton that was posted on a right-wing blog (of all places!) with our High School of Week which is the famous Central High School in the state capital of Little Rock.

It should be pointed out that Clinton actually graduated from Hot Springs High School in Hot Springs, Ark., but Central is actually the most recognized high school in the state, if not the nation, because it was the site of a major desegregation incident in 1957 that is considered to be a cornerstone in the Civil Rights movement.

One of the first black students involved with the desesgregation (also called "The Little Rock Nine") Jefferson Thomas recently died in Ohio at age 68 on Sept. 5.
Thomas was cited by President Barack Obama for his civic courage.

Clinton, who was then in office as president, celebrated the 40th anniversary of Central's desegregation with then Republican governor Mike Huckabee, who unsucessfully sought the GOP presidential nomination for 2008, in 1997.

Central HS has been cited nationally for academic excellence, and it has an enrollment of circa 2,422 students. Nancy Rousseau is principal of the school whose famous alumnus in recent years includes Green Day guitarist Jason White.

The school nickname is The Tigers, and in recent years they had the dubious distinction of losing 23 football games in a row.

But that certainly does not change the school's place in American history.
